How to link findings together

Use linkages to tie related findings together. There are several ways to create linkages in FIBRES.

What are linkages

Create permanent connections between findings with linkages. Linkages also build the Network.

Use linkages to:

  • Link trends to signals that support them
  • Link related trends together
  • Add findings to summaries

How to make linkages

You can make linkages in the 3 following locations:

In the Findings view

Selecting one or more findings in the Findings view will open the actions toolbar, which lets you create linkages.

Inside the finding full view

When you open a finding in full view, look for the Manage linkages button under Linked items. You can create more linkages or remove existing ones there.

In the Sources view

When you add a new finding from Sources, you can immediately choose to link it with another finding.

Typically, when you've created or clipped a new signal, you'll want to link it with an existing finding, such as a trend:

  1. With the new signal open, scroll down to Linked items and click Manage linkages.
  2. Select the All items tab.
  3. Search for the finding you want to link to and select it.
  4. Click Link.

Alternatively, you can select the new signal in the Findings view to link it:

  1. Navigate to the Findings view.
  2. Sort your findings by Latest created.
  3. Select the new signal with the selector.
  4. Click Link in the action bar and select Link with an existing finding.
  5. In the link editor, search for the finding you want to link to.
  6. Click Link.

Example: Link two or more findings together

If you want to link a bunch of findings together, it's easiest to link them by selecting them in the Findings view.

  1. Navigate to Findings.
  2. Select the findings you want to link by using the selector.
  3. Click Link from the action bar, and then Link to each other.

All of the findings will be linked together with n-to-n linkages.

If you want to link a bunch of findings to a third finding, but don't want linkages within all of the findings, you can do so in two ways:

In the Findings view

  1. Navigate to Findings.
  2. Select the findings you want to link by using the selector.
  3. Click Link from the action bar, and then Link to an existing finding or Link to an existing summary.
  4. Select the finding you want to link the selected findings to.

If you want to link the selected findings with a finding or summary that doesn't exist yet, select Link to a new finding or Link to a new summary instead.

In the finding full view

  1. Open the finding you want to link to.
  2. Scroll down to Linked items and click Manage linkages.
  3. Select the All items tab.
  4. Select the findings you want

Linking options in the action bar

When creating linkages in the Findings view, these are the linking options you can choose from.

  • Link to each other: Instantly links the selected findings. Only available when two or more findings are selected.
  • Link to an existing finding: Lets you choose an existing finding to link the selected finding(s) to.
  • Link to a new finding: Lets you create a new finding to link the selected finding(s) to.
  • Link to an existing summary: Lets you choose an existing summary to link the selected finding(s) to.
  • Link to a new summary: Lets you create a new summary to link the selected finding(s) to.

Linkages can be removed in the finding full view:

  1. Open a finding or a summary.
  2. Scroll down to Linked items.
  3. Click on Manage linkages.
  4. Navigate to Linked items and select items.
  5. Click Unlink.

Quick link from AI picks

AI picks provides linking suggestions from Findings and Sources.

  1. Open a finding or a summary.
  2. Scroll down to AI picks.
  3. Click the link icon to link a finding.

Locating unlinked findings

It's a best practice to link related findings as soon as you add them to FIBRES.

If you need to locate unlinked findings later on, there are two ways to do so:

In Findings

  1. Navigate to Findings.
  2. Click on the filter icon.
  3. Under Advanced, select Unlinked findings.

In Network

  1. Navigate to Network.
  2. Look for unlinked Megatrends, Trends, and Signal clusters.
