How to use portfolios

Portfolios are the other main data type in FIBRES along with findings. Whereas findings are best when used for individual topics, such as an individual signal or trend, portfolios can be used for versatile grouping purposes.

What are portfolios

You can think of portfolios like containers for findings. Whereas findings are best for writing out different types of phenomena, portfolios can be used for grouping different types of findings together. The portfolio itself then serves as a good place for further analysis and discussion.

Ideas for using portfolios:

  • Answering an ad-hoc question from your findings
  • Outlining future scenarios based on your findings
  • Compiling project-specific knowledge

How to add findings to portfolios

You can add findings to portfolios with linkages.

What are portfolio types

Each portfolio has a portfolio type. The portfolio type is indicated by the colored label above the portfolio title.  The default portfolio type is Collection.

Custom portfolio types

Other portfolio types can be configured to match your foresight needs, e.g. Capabilities, Risks, Scenarios, or Opportunities.

Portfolios in other main views

Portfolios in the Network view

Portfolios are visible on the Network view as rectangles. If you've linked findings to your portfolio, you will see those linkages on the Network.

Portfolios in the Finding view

The Findings view only shows findings, so portfolios will not be visible here. You can filter the Findings view to only show findings in a selected portfolio.

Portfolios on the Radar view

Unlike findings, portfolios can not be positioned on radars. However, just like in Findings, you can filter your radars to only show findings in a selected portfolio.
